Our Programmes

Annual Media Conference

Started in 2016 by GLCSMS, the conference brings together journalists and prominent dignitaries from the government and civil society organisations (CSOs) to deliberate on a selected conference theme, and other issues of development in northern Uganda and the country.

Widely known as the AMC, the conference has brought together close to 300 participants by the time it had its 4th Edition in 2021. The conference gives a platform for the public and those in authorities at different levels to engage with media practitioners and to find solutions to gaps breeding press violations and attacks on journalists and media institutions.

Preparations have started ahead of the 5th edition later in 2023.

Real Story Awards (RSA)

Our new initiative, Real Story Awards (RSA) seeks to recognize and reward exceptional local journalists & media houses in Northern Uganda. RSA will in 2024 start rewarding upcountry journalists for their exceptional reporting on environment and climate, people and culture; GBV, Biodiversity and WASH.

The program will recognize journalists from Lango, Acholi, West Nile; Karamoja and Teso.

Media and Capacity Building Training (MCBT)

MCBT offers short-term and long-term fellowships to media practitioners and media managers. Training areas and subjects include: media viability, multimedia and data journalism, peace and conflict reporting; health, nature and environment reporting.

The fellowship helps trainees to engage with experts to learn and share knowledge gaps, among different challenges faced at personal and institutional levels.
