The Great Lakes Centre for Strategic Media Studies (GLCSMS) is pleased to announce that it is finalizing the processes of establishing School Media Clubs (SMCs) in selected secondary schools in Kole, Omoro and Oyam districts.
What will the SMCs do?
SMCs will, among other objectives and purposes, empower students on early-communication skills, digital literacy and how to curb online threats; improve public speaking and presentation.
It will also empower members to produce school magazines, podcasts and introduce them to the media world.
Who will manage them?
School Media Clubs will be run and managed by the constitutions or by-laws developed by the members (students), GLCSMS and school and administration. The constitutions shall detail how each Clubs’ President, Vice, Secretary, Publicity; Treasurer, Editors and Patron are elected.
Two, it will also detail duration for office bearers and transition in leadership.
Composition of the SMCs
Members and leaders of the Club(s) will be students of Senior One, Two and Three. These categories of membership will allow for full concentration and allow those in candidate classes (Senior Four and Six) to concentrate on their academic classes in preparation for final examinations.
Benefits, recognition and exposure
GLCSMS will provide training workshops and learning trips to top schools and media houses in the country, including competition between different clubs. Clubs ranked in position one will receive cash rewards, certificates and medals.
