GLCSMS media statement on Uganda’s political nomination coverage

Responsible, safety-conscious reporting not only protects journalists but also upholds the integrity and credibility of electoral coverage.

Lira City, October | Ahead of the two-day nominations exercise for Members of Parliament for different categories running from October 22–23 2025, the Great Lakes Center for Strategic Media Studies (GLCSMS) urges all reporters and their media houses to prioritize safety.

Reporters should always wear visible press identifications, stay vigilant in crowded or tense areas, and avoid unnecessary confrontations with supporters of candidates or even security forces.

Additionally, keep your equipment secure, maintain constant communication with your newsroom. We urge media houses to verify all information before making them public.

Responsible, safety-conscious reporting not only protects journalists but also upholds the integrity and credibility of electoral coverage.
